The Love Of My Life

29Jan2012_5798

Bailey turned 2 this month. Despite costing a fortune in operations for eyes, knees and abscesses, prescription food and medicine to control allergies, she is the love of my life. The current heat wave in my home town is making nights really uncomfortable and recently I only got three hours sleep one night.  I should have [...]

Best Friend

A young girl takes her dog to be sterilised as part of a population control program by the Balinese Animal Welfare Association.

As a tourist it’s easy to think that the Balinese don’t care about their dogs.  Truthfully they have more important things to care about like putting food on the table and making enough money to put their kids through school. But sometimes you get the opportunity to see a real relationship between a Balinese and [...]

Junkyard Balls

In Singapadu BAWA sets up a field operating theatre in the village hall.

One of the highlights of this trip to Bali was to spend time with BAWA’s spay/neuter team in Singapadu in the Gianyar Regency.  Singapadu seems like a middle class area relatively untouched by tourism and provided me with one of the most authentic Balinese experiences I’ve ever had. My driver drops me in the middle [...]

Benoa Harbour

Stranded at low tide.

My Dad used to work the trawlers in the north-west of WA and also in Queensland so I spent a large part of my childhood on boats and jetties. Harbours are always full of boats bumping against tyres, the smell of diesel and fish, oil slicks on the water, barnacles on pylons and a jumble [...]

Enam Anjing – 6 Dogs

Ringworm Puppy

A visit to Bali Animal Welfare Association provides some insight into Bali life through the world of their street dogs. These dogs were all rescued and treated at the BAWA clinic in Ubud, with the aim to get them healthy and into forever homes.   Rat Poison Dog A happy little dog greets me [...]

Greyhound Adoptions WA

27Nov2011_4452

I’ve been meeting some really amazing people and some really cool dogs while researching greyhound adoptions. Some of those amazing people run Greyhound Adoptions WA who have regular stalls in the Rockingham area, raising awareness of the ex racing greyhounds that need to be adopted or put down.  They are supported by a network of [...]

The More I Love My Dog

IMG_7709-copy

Carrie Underwood sings a song I really like because of one particular line: “The more boys I meet the more I love my dog”. The most memorable thing about all the following dogs was how much each of them were loved by their owners.  And all profits from these photoshoots were donated to the Bali [...]

Kite Fun

IMG_0133_0182

Balinese hawkers sell bright and colourful kites to the tourists all year round, some of them are quite complex and all of them small enough and light enough to pack into your suitcase. Photographically you can have a lot of fun taking pictures of them!         Apparently there is a kite festival [...]

Where It All Started

On the side of the road on a busy corner, too tired to get up and out of the way.

This trip to Bali in 2009 to photograph the street dogs led to a fundraising exhibition, the founding of www.pavva.org.au and inspired continued coverage of animal conservation issues.
