New built fishing trawlers in Benoa Harbour, Bali, are slightly reminiscent of paddle steamers with their balustraded decks and big curved prows. Made of fibreglass and looking like wood these boats only have the classic maroon anti-fouling paint on their hulls.
The trawlers in Benoa Harbour, Bali, are moored together in clumps of colours and nationalities, Taiwanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and Indonesian. Benoa Harbour is a crazy mix of bright colours on the trawlers of mixed Asian nationalities. The boats are tied so closely together that some decks are on a precariously slippery lean and the hulls show the wear and tear of the tough lives the fishermen lead.
Trawlers are routinely stranded on the tidal flats of Benoa Harbour during low tide chiefly for hull maintenance purposes.
This wreck has been a feature of Benoa Harbour for many years and shows where shallow water is during low tide. It’s also useful as an anchor during high tide while low tide provides an excellent opportunity for hull maintenance.
This sandcastle heart was found on a Nusa Dua beach, Bali, at sunset. Nusa Dua has some great hotels, is reknowned for it’s crazy water sports and is not far from Benoa Harbour where tourists can catch a ferry to nearby Lembongan Island.
