Two young Balinese boys at a Melasti ceremony on a beach in Kuta, Bali. The Melasti ceremony is part of the Balinese new year celebrations leading up to Nyepi, Day of Silence, and Bali’s New Year’s Day.  

Bali is an island of weekly, if not daily, festivals and celebrations.  In the lead up to the Hindu new year celebrations of Nyepi, these locals dressed in religious white with coloured cumberbunds,  leave the Melasti Festival in Kuta at dusk chanting and banging on drums.
